A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Wednesday against Sajjan Jindal, managing director of the JSW Group, in connection with alleged rape charges against him.

According to the details, a woman in Mumbai had approached the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Police Station in February this year, accusing Jindal of raping her.

However, she later approached the Bombay High Court through advocates Rizwan Merchant and Gayatri Gokhale, after the police allegedly paid no heed to her complaint.

According to the woman's complaint, Jindal and she had met in 2021 and were sitting in a VIP box during an IPL cricket match in Dubai.

They later met a few times when Jindal allegedly promised to marry her and made physical advances on her.

While the woman managed to ward off Jindal's advances, he allegedly sexually assaulted her on January 24, 2022.

In the complaint, the woman stated Jindal later apologised to her but allegedly threatened her with dire consequences and later blocked her from contacting him.

During the court hearing, advocate Merchant pointed out how the woman had been made to run from one police station to another and the FIR had not been registered.

During an earlier hearing, the bench of Justices PD Naik and NR Borkar had summoned senior police inspectors of three police stations in Mumbai where the woman had been made to run and questioned their lackadaisical approach.

Additional Public Prosecutor YY Dabake representing the state, on instructions from BKC police station and senior police inspector RH Kadam, submitted that in the event the complainant appears before them on December 13, a statement would be recorded, and consequential action would be initiated based on the complainant's statement.

On Thursday, a day after the FIR against Jindal was filed, Merchant and Gokhale told the court that the FIR had been registered, after which the bench directed the BKC police to expedite its investigation.

The court also directed the police that the investigation into the case should be completed within the statutory limit of two months.

The FIR against Jindal was filed under Sections 376 (rape), 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
